## Start with the two questions

Jaw symptoms alone do not establish TMD or orthodontic need\. Painless joint sounds alone commonly need no treatment; pain or restricted movement warrants assessment of possible causes\. Evidence does not establish bite\-changing orthodontics as a TMD remedy\.



## A fictional explanation

An adult reports jaw discomfort\. The clinician explains: “Your upper front teeth overlap; aligning them within their row is a separate goal\. Symptoms need assessment\.”

The adult replies: “The alignment goal concerns my front teeth’s positions, not the cause of my jaw symptoms or a promise of relief\.”
